A- for accuracy, F for relevance.

I don't know that this is particularly helpful for the OP but I learned something from this post of yours - so thank you. I live in western NC and I had never heard that before. It made me smile. I have a cousin who lives in Cary and though she (and her husband) have been there quite a few years now, they are indeed 'relocated Yankees' - she grew up in the Mamaroneck, NY area and I am pretty sure he hails from up there too.

You have to pick the comments you like, and ignore the rest. It is just how it works.

I think a couple of people tossed out some good stuff to consider.

You DO have to find what you like in Cary, and if you are flexible about popping into Durham, Chapel Hill, Raleigh, etc, you should be able to occupy yourself nicely.
If your benchmark is DC, NYC, Chicago, Boston, etc., you may do well to say, "There is less to do here, but, wow, it is peaceful."

We came from small town, rural PA, and have never been bored.
Well, except during hockey playoffs over the last 10 years or so, but that is a different story...

We have tickets to see Motown the Musical in August at DPAC.
We will go to Avon on Hatteras for a week this spring. Cheap oceanfront rental house!
We have season hockey tix, and that is just down the street from the NC Museum of Art grounds, which is just down the street from all sorts of retail, service, parks, etc.
AAA baseball in Durham is fun in the summer.
Nature abounds, for gardening, birdwatching, hiking(few hills), kayaking.
Cycling is active in the area.
Koka Booth Amphitheater
American Tobacco Trail.
Greenways and parks in Cary are great.
Photography is fun.

Cary is definitely a city. It simply has too many people to be considered a "town" anymore. Cary is perfect for families or for retired people. Plenty of parks, schools, and family friendly activities. If you're single or a a couple with no kids living with you, Raleigh would be a much better place to live.

Whether a place is boring or not has a lot to do with finding friends. Once you make a couple of friends you will always have fun stuff to do in addition to all the family, school, church etc. things.

MikeJaquish, thank you for the feedback, it is very helpful. We have no problem living i Cary and moving around the triangle for fun. Having lived in Fl, Atl, NYC and yes, good ole Boston, I was apprehensive about the quality of life, purely based on activities since we know Cary hits the marks on other things that matter. Cary seems well rounded from the suggested links and searches I just did based on yours and other users recommendation. I currently live in NC and am hoping Cary is an upgrade from the city where we currently live. I think it will be.

Meh. People always say that the Triangle isn't big city-esque, and I agree to a point, but also disagree. If you add the land area of Raleigh, Durham and Cary together it comes to 305 square miles and roughly 860,000 people...Charlotte, often considered a big city, is 299 square miles and has 809,000. Just some food for thought. Both metros are quite suburban, but Raleigh is denser. I know you didn't ask about Charlotte, just throwing it out there though.

OK.

Even if you decline to say, it MUST be asked. The entire assemblage is dying of curiosity.

Upgrading from WHERE in NC?
