This article says traffic is bad. Has anyone driven through the area. Are they exaggerating? If it's bad enough that police are directing traffic, then I'd avoid it for a few weeks.
It is that bad, I was just up there this past Sunday. Guess Road is essentially down to 1 lane on the side where Popeyes is because the drive through traffic backs up in the far right lane.
Getting to Costco is fine, it's only if you need to get on Guess Rd right at the intersection with N Pointe Dr where it's really bad.
I go through there every day between 4:15 and 4:30 or so. The worst is southbound, as the right travel lane on Guess morphs into a drive-thru lane for Popeyes starting at the light with the Bojangles. That light gets busy with traffic turning from North Point, so the area gets clogged. And that's right by the entrance to I-85 South, which I'm sure aggravates those wanting to enter the highway there. Fortunately, I head northbound, which isn't affected as much, but things got messy at the light yesterday when the car in front of me stopped at the green, trying to find a way to Popeyes, and made me miss that cycle of the light. There was a turn lane for them there, but they didn't get in it. SMH.
Right now, yes since Popeye's is now open and lines are backed up.
Other than that, the traffic light at Guess/North Pointe is a hassle, but everything else seems steady. Once the Popeye's hype wears down a bit, it'll be back to normal.
If you're trying to get to Costco itself, you can always avoid the area around Popeye's by taking exit 176 instead of 175 on I-85 (assuming that you're coming from Brier Creek and not Western Durham) and making a left turn at the light with Murray. Taking Murray straight down will lead you right into the back entrance to Costco.

I did see police actually out of the car & handing something to folks queued up for the Popeye's. Don't know if it was a warning or a ticket.
There is a tiny sign at N. Pointe & Guess directing Popeye's traffic back that street -- I'm guessing there is a 2nd entrance to the plaza there? First thing the state needs to do is make Popeye's put in a bigger sign. Then they need to totally re-adjust that intersection.
It was bad enough when it was just BoJangle's & Honey's across the way. Now with the gas stations, McDonalds, Popeye's and what ever will go into the next building going up it is a mess. Lots of little fender-benders, and only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt.
And unfortunately it is state - not city So the odds of getting it done soon are probably slim to none.
People will soon realize that Bojangles is so much better than Popeyes.
This x1000! I don't understand the obsession with Popeye's. I've always thought it was just a greasier, less tasty version of the Bo!
