My septic system had a leak and I had a septic repair man check it out. He said that the lines are full of mud and that I HAVE to hook up to city sewer. Does anyone know what tap fees are or how much this process costs? I have a sewer cap in my back yard approximately 20 ft from my house / septic tank. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks.

and how easy will it be for a backhoe to get to the backyard area in question. And, why would there be a sewer line run through your yard if you've always been on septic?

Raleigh, NC. The city has tried for years to annex our street but hasn't been able to, thought they did run sewer lines through the back of properties for just this occasion.

Found prices for all of NC. For my area looking at about $4,800.

You really have no choice as it is unlikely you have a repair field available. And even if you did you would be looking at a minimum 12K for a new septic system, most being about 30-40 to install these days--if you have enough land.

Yeah, I purchased the house with the understanding that if it failed I had to hook up to city sewer. I've wanted to do it since I moved in because I was always worried that this would happen. Just so happens that I'm trying to list my house for sale next month. Great timing

The good news is that being hooked up will help to sell your house. Hope it can take place quickly, but you are right, the timing is unfortunate. On the other hand if it failed just after you sold the house someone would be really ticked off at you.
