The Cary and Raleigh locations are permanently closed due to a corporate bankruptcy. Gotta say I didn't see that coming. We went there at least once a month and it's always busy. The real kicker is that I'm holding $150 in worthless gift cards... ouch.

Just saw that - I'm a bit surprised, but I didn't know about the bankruptcy. Will be interested to see what replaces it in Cary!

Sad to hear that, but I think many restaurants are either struggling to survive or have already closed...it's a tough business. Usually when consumers have to cut back on expenses, eating out is at the top of the list. I know we don't eat out as often as we used to but part of that is due to having a reduced diet without the high calories typically found in most restaurant food.

No loss at all.

See the December Wake County health report. Multiple repeat violations, some even recorded for up to 9 consecutive inspections.

This company mishandled the restaurants, which could have been a great place to eat healthy meals. Horrible store managers who didn't give a hoot.

We used to love Sweet Tomatoes but quit going there several months ago.

Was it just the local ones that were shut down or were all corporate locations shut down? If some locations are still open, you can sell your gift cards online. There are several websites which specialize in such transactions. You'll definitely take a hit from face value, but it's better than nothing.

I heard about the bankruptcy and stores closing, but didn't know if/when NC locations would be shut down. I knew about the inspections but didn't see them as major. Now we can all go to Jason's Deli for their salad bar.

Sorry to hear that Sweet Tomatoes is closing; although I haven't been there in quite a while.

Took hubby there once but he is a meat and potatoes kinda guy. Although he enjoyed the food, it was more of a lunch place for him.

The times that I did go, it was very crowded and the food was fresh.

As far as I know it's just the NC locations that closed. They still have locations in Florida and the west coast that are still open. Thanks for the tip about selling gift cards online, I will look into that.

Did they close yesterday or is it today? (I'm guessing yesterday?)

Before taking the loss selling the gift cards online, try calling the corporate HQ. They might be willing to do the right thing and refund your money. Souplantation Sweet Tomatoes Corporate Office & Headquarters

But they ARE closing in other cities, too.
