These cams are a new thing to me, not even sure what they do - catch people running red lights, speeding, turning right on red, all of the above? They don't have these cams anywhere I've driven before.
I was at a red light in the straight/turn right lane, there was a sign for red light camera, I didn't see a sign saying don't turn right on red. Funny as this was just mentioned in a thread here yesterday, I thought I could legally make a right on red but as it was Six Forks and busy, I choose to wait until the light changed.
Or at least I thought I did. I think what might have happened is that as the light was changing I was inching forward, but did not get on to the main road until the light changed, but the cam went off right at that moment.
Is there a ticket in my near future?
Second question - even if I did turn right on red where I shouldn't, the cam was facing my front, and cars here don't have front plates, so what is it taking a picture of?
I don't recall any no turn on red signs or locations where they have those cameras on Six Forks (by North Hills right?) so you're not at fault there. They'll review the photos and if they don't actually catch you going through the intersection when the light is red, I don't think you'll get a ticket or you'll have a good case to fight it. They have cameras behind you so they can catch your rear license plate as well
I had one flash on me and never received a ticket. I did not run the light, similar situation to you. I wouldn't worry about it. It might have even been for someone else.
I just got a citation in the mail from the one on Dawson. The letter has date, time, speed, location listed. Even has the lane I was in listed. The letter contains 3 photos - Photo 1 is me entering the intersection at 22.02 seconds, Photo 2 is me in the intersection at 22.89 seconds, Photo 3 is a zoomed in shot of my plate. My fine is $100 but only $50 if I pay by 03/11, how kind of them. The last line states "No points will be assessed against your driving record or insurance as a result of the VIOLATION." Sounds as harmless as a parking ticket. If I remember correctly, you actually have to be pulled over by an officer to receive a moving violation, so these cams are bogus and extortion by the city.
My guess is that the data will show that you didn't actually make the right turn.

I don't know how true it is but I have heard if you fight it they drop it. Of course in the time it takes it's probably cheaper to just pay the fine...
I thought the SafeLight (red light camera) program had been suspended by the city? Are they functioning again?
Cary pulled all theirs a few years back.
