On the analysts call the Charter CFO referred to "churn from the low-value legacy TWC value set". Sounds like they are convinced that they're doing the right thing for the business because profits from the 100,000 customers they chased away are less than incremental profits from everyone else they've retained despite price increases.

So today our 200 Mpbs for $54.99 rate expired. It's now $64.99 and Spectrum insists that they are unable to make changes to "legacy" TWC accounts without converting to Spectrum first. Here are the pathetic "deals" they offered over the phone (which we promptly declined):

100 Mbps: $54.99 for 12 months, then $64.99

300 Mbps: $84.99 for 12 months, then $104.99

The best part is if you downgrade to 100 Mbps and decide to upgrade speeds at any time, there is a mandatory $200 activation fee.

This sucks...

AT&T Gig E is $72 (promotion) or $82 for the first year. If Spectrum pulls this with me I'll do AT&T for a year.

You're lucky to have this available in your area. My only other option is AT&T 50Mbps (1TB data cap) for $40/mo

Yep. And I'm sure that in due course we will be *forced* to choose a Spectrum plan. In my case, that means my cable (minus the equipment rental costs) will raise 67% for the same stuff I have now.

We may be switching to Google soon.

My needs are modest and U-Verse offers Internet for $30/month if that is all you need.

How much internet do you use a month? 1 TB is an awful lot and 50 Mbps is sufficient for most internet users (most people don't need gigabit internet)

exactly what we have done...most of paid TV is worthless and you wind up paying for crap you never watch...every year the bill goes up ...it just isnt worth it...we have internet only and thats 80 bucks a month...ridiculous but try living without the internet..its like flying blind these days...YMMV (your mileage may vary)...
