We are considering relocating for a job and are looking for recommendations of where to live between Raleigh and Oxford.
Things that are important:
*good school system, or if public schools are not strong some good private school options (elementary)
* would like housing options outside of standard cookie cutter housing developments ... couple of acres ideal, but not a must have
* a safe area
* an area that offers family friendly activities and events.

I imagine that the job is in Oxford, and a commute is imminent?
I would be in N Raleigh, somewhere with easy access to Creedmoor Rd.
It is a long commute, but a straight shot up Creedmoor Road through Creedmoor, to Oxford.
I would look in the Stonehenge area, and work my way north from there.
You can certainly get a couple of acres once you get north of I540.
Yes, one of us will be working in Oxford, the other most likely in the Raleigh area. So trying to find a happy medium in between to land that doesn't require a difficult commute for either of us.

I did the long commute and let my wife have a short commute for a couple of years.
It worked.
If you want to equally split the difference, you will be in Granville County, maybe between Falls Lake and Creedmoor.
There is nothing wrong with that, if you want it. You will drive for everything, though.
But, if you want good access to Raleigh amenities, I would be around 540 or points north in N Raleigh.
540 gives you great access around N Raleigh, and to RTP.
Creedmoor Rd. gets you into Raleigh.
You might consider Stonegate, Chandler Pointe, Registry at Bailey Farm, Adams Mountain, Hunters Landing, Pointe at Falls Lake, Black Horse Run, Byrum Woods, Papillion Park.
There are many others.
For kid activities, subdivision pools are a good indicator. Gathering place and often very popular.
Various price points are represented in that list, so your budget will also be determinant.
