I believe it. Wake County is a large land mass.

When I head down to my parents (near Topsail Island), I feel like I'm doing well if it takes me a hour to get from Durham (Southpoint Area) to Clayton i-40 exit.

Raleigh is in Wake County. Fuquay Varina is a burb near the southern portion of Wake County and Wake Forest is a burb near the northern portion of Wake County. These two burbs are 57 miles apart. And that does not include Durham Co or Orange Co (Chapel Hill). It's alot of area unless you narrow down your search.

Are you looking for urban, suburban, rural, near RTP, near RDU??? Price range will also have an impact.

Most people find a job and then find a particular place to live. But if you are coming to see if you like the area enough to search for a job here, let us know what interests you have and then we can recommend places to see. You'll find that for the most part there is not a huge difference between different areas in the Triangle.... we have many decent, safe neighborhoods. The key is getting one that is close to work and close to the things you enjoy.

Have fun with your visit!!
Fuquay and Wake Forest are 57 miles apart ! Who would have known...

Recently, there were some folks that I met that moved here from the LA area to Durham. They really loved the diversity, arts and other things that paralleled their life in California. Since you are older with no kids, you might consider the new lofts being built in downtown Durham. There are also a lot of jobs in your industry in this area as the Research Triangle Park is in Durham.
