I had great experiences at HH Gregg in Apex. TV, refrigerator, and Bosch dishwasher all priced better than what I could find locally (I don't mail order TVs). Great service, great followup payback after something I bought went on sale within a month, no hassle service. Hate to see them go but they certainly were lacking foot traffic every time I was there.

Can I help you? Nope, just looking.

Can I help you?

Yes, can you explain why this thing is better than that thing? (Blank stare)
That's more than I ever got. The one I went to hardly had any customers in there and there were a group of employees BS'ing with each other and couldn't be bothered to help. They just looked at me like...

The HH Gregg stores all smelled moldy and musty to me when you walked inside

Ha, we went a few months after they first opened and I would have paid $5 for a flag to carry around saying we did not need help at the time.

I'm sorry I didn't forgive those late fees for you back in 1994.

Take off the words "that location" from your post and you probably have something closer to reality of their situation.

I always thought they had a weird name.

It's named after its founder Henry Harold Gregg. I think it was a rebranded from the original Gregg Appliances to be "hip" with the modern times.

This was because the employees were totally compensated by commission. No sell, no eat.

One reason Circuit City failed.

Incorrect.

Circuit City failed after they switched from commission to straight-salary. All their experienced salespeople left to go elsewhere after that and the morons they brought in to replace them brought down the company, because all it was after the switch was a dated and older-looking version of the better-looking, newer Best Buy.
