That's how all liquidation sales work. Liquidation firm strips off the good stuff that they can sell to other retailers, marks up the garbage that's left and then "discounts" it.
HHGregg has no role in the liquidation sale...they're already gone.
Indeed, it's the job of the liquidator to make some kind of profit. People thinking they'll get some kind of deal should just stay away. The liquidator marks everything up in the store and then "fake discounts" what they just marked up. Going out of business sales are just theater for the gullible.
I really didn't even know they were closing until I saw the going out of business sale at crossroads. Swung by to see what was in there, and there were about 10 microwaves, 5 TV's, 2 surround sound's a few refrigerators and washer and dryers. Was bare to the bones.
The TV's were priced right (probably why they sold) as I compared the prices online and they were a good deal, but I just didn't need a TV.
HH Gregg, like Best Buy, serves its purpose - you can go touch, feel, test drive items then buy them cheaper online!
Even if the whole chain is closing, the liquidation companies still do shady mark up/mark down tactics, plus bring in junk from wherever and act like it's some super duper sale. But when it's only certain stores and the rest of the company remains operational? Best believe all the good stuff is transferred out to other stores first.
I got into the Crossroads store, wandering past after an oil change, and scored a nice price on a Logitech keyboard for Heartthrob.
Lifesaver, since I broke one of the legs off hers....
This was "This Store Closing," before HH decided to liquidate the whole chain.
