I hate that, too.

I've never seen this situation happen where nobody is coming and people aren't turning right on red (if allowed). Usually if it does happen, it's a driver who is a little timid and not risky and that's fine with me, I can wait a few seconds.

No need to be crass about it. I was just attempting to say that sometimes people think that oncoming thru traffic has a red light when in fact they don't. That and when people have solid green lights and decide to pull u-turns into traffic but are required to yield.

This happens all the time at Walnut and US-1. Idiots who have solid green left turns are supposed to yield when doing a u-turn, because people coming off of US-1 also have solid right green arrows. The number of times I've had some f'n asshat nearly plow into me doing a u-turn are too damn high.

Let me say it here: BRING BACK DRIVERS ED IN SCHOOLS! We have idiot parents teaching kids to be idiots. We have kids only learning enough to sneak by the driving test. We have kids learning from their friends who often don't know much. Driving is an important function. An automobile can be an unintended weapon. Driving schools are in it for the money and only those families who have extra money can send their kids to driving school, yet everyone on the road is at risk. I would gladly pay a little more in taxes to insure that drivers know the rules of the road.

I remember Drivers' Ed!
The films were instructive.

YES! THIS!

I had no idea they didn't teach it in schools anymore. That's so sad. I had such a good experience with that when I was in school.

If you are going to pull out in traffic then step on the gas. I understand if their prius has like 46 horsepower, but they can push their foot down and get moving. I see quite a few people pull out in front of traffic and refuse to accelerate. The extra $0.10 in gas is worth it.

Hah.
They are driving so they can post their mileage on FB brag pages.
"I got 10,000 miles per gallon, and saw 6 cars go in the ditch/median/river trying to avoid me merging on I-40 at 11 MPH! Do I get double points?"

The shame of it is, the Prius is a pretty snappy car when driven properly.

Well, you are in the wrong for honking. Read below as it's 100% correct. I agree it's irritating especially when you're running late but it's no one's fault but your own why you're late.

O.P. - I agree with your complaint. Only suggestion I can make is get use to it and be more vigilant as these issues will only continue to get worse. I have noticed in the past few years a rapid increase of drivers pulling right out in front of me after doing a rolling stop even though there is no one behind me, drivers just sitting there after the light has turned green most of which I can confirm are staring at their phone (I count to 3 before I lay on the horn. 3 seconds is way more than ample time to move your foot from the brake to the accelerator pedal), and drivers swerving in and out of their lane, running off the road, crossing left of center, etc. You gotta pay attention because most people only care about what's on their phone, not anyone else in society. If they cared about anyone else the above issues wouldn't exist. The only task a driver has is paying attention to their driving, not their phone.

Drivers ed is still in schools. Due to cutbacks by the General Assembly, there is a charge for taking it now.
