Hi all, moving down to the Triangle and have my eye on a lot that I'd like to build on. However, the street frontage is obscured by utility cables being run across on poles - from looking at them it seems like telephone, power, and cable.

Other areas of town have utility cables buried, which make for more pleasant curb appeal, and I was wondering - is it possible (at my cost) to have the utility companies bury these lines? Anyone done anything like this before?

The utility poles will stay forever. But you can pay to have the lines from the pole to your house buried. Former neighbors of my parents did this a few years (10-ish) ago.

Depending on the neighborhood, you might get power back faster after a storm than other neighborhoods. Esp. if its a main line heading off to a lot of customers.
