Just don't be like the people that have it mounted a foot below the rear view mirror. Amazes me every time that I see this.

Why?
I have my radar detector mounted about 6-inches below. I doesn't have to be in easy heads-up line of sight since I only look at it briefly, when it goes off.
It has better reception lower, (parallel to the plain of the metal hood), and
it can see out the back window, and
sitting where I do in the drivers seat, it's low enough that it blocks my view not of the road, but of the front right corner of my hood.

I was a bit concerned that the suction cup much more visible than the suction cup for my GPS/phone (top left windshield that's hidden by the shade-stripe at top), re: smash-n-grab bait. But I live in a pretty nice part of town and it's garaged.

Radar detectors are relatively thin top-to-bottom. GPS's are getting bigger and bigger and block a lot more vision when mounted in the middle of the windshield.

My V1 is mounted lower left of my windshield. Great reception and doesn't block my view at all.

Actually a radar detector should be mounted high. Sunlight reflecting off the hood can interfere if it's too low. Mine is mounted next to the rear view mirror. Where to Mount the V1 | Valentine One | Radar Detectors
