Tried it in DC....wasn't impressed. I liked the food at IKEA when I went to the one in Charlotte; furniture was right but a little overhyped IMO. The "gadgets" they have are pretty cool and useful though!
I fully expect protest shirts opposing a blue and yellow illuminated sign, with a background of lingonberries and salmon. It'll be elitist blue-haired seniors with houses already full of American wood furniture.
That's not what Cary is at all anymore (never really was about all beige either, they just have standards) I know council members are all for it. He also said that they've been looking for a site in Raleigh for a long time but that they couldn't find the right fit. The timeline to 2020 is complicated by the fact that there needs to be demo at the existing mall first. Frankly, I am glad that the IKEA won't be pushed to the outer edges of the metro and I think it's worth waiting for a site like this that is more central and accessible to the entire Triangle's population.
