Hi
My wife and I will be moving from DC to the Raleigh-Durham area in about 4 years. We are in our late fifties,
and looking to purchase a house in a neighborhood that is: 1) serviced by public transportation 2) Safe
3) able to find a house in the neighborhood for no more than $250K for a 4 br 2 ba. 3) not too far from amenities--grocery store, gas station, coffee shop, restaurants, community center, gym.

Any neighborhood recommendations?

Thanks

DC Man

are you trying to buy now, and rent it out until you move in 4 years?

Public transit is nothing like DC Metro and, with the anti-transit attitude here, probably will never be that good.

Crime is increasing but not to DC levels.

Four years is quite a bit away, so a lot may change with the overloading from transplants, etc.

With that budget and desire for public transportation, 4br, proximity to restaurants, coffee shops, etc. I am honestly not sure if there is anything in the Triangle area including ones that are old. Maybe something that is a fixer upper in a not so good part of Durham or Raleigh.

You should look at the Hedingham neighborhood. It's has most if not all of what you're looking for. You will even be able to find a nice home in your price range.

In 4-5 years never mind!

Misconceptions about the Triangle are common Up North. People are looking for Mayberry.
