Day Care Options
Hi all,
So the wife just got offered a part time job - Great! Unfortunately, it is on an "as needed" basis (i.e., they would call her whenever someone goes on vacation, or someone is sick, etc) until a more permanent position opens up in the future. The job involves something she really enjoys, so she wants to accept the offer, but she's concerned about daycare. We have a 15 month old son and we know of no daycare that will take a child on an as needed basis. From past experience, it seems that you pay for the whole week even if you don't use it. Are there daycares out there willing to accommodate this? We currently live in Morrisville in an apartment, but are shopping for a house, so all areas are being considered right now.
Thanks.

Congratulations on the job!
Most of the daycare centers are going to expect either a specific part time schedule (like M-W-F) or full-time, because they don't want to hold a spot open in a class. I would check with private care providers - my neighbor in North Raleigh has a home daycare, and she can offer more flexibility, since she only watches a couple kids. She watched mine for just three weeks once, when my track-out care fell through. (Long story, my fault, I thought we were registered but we weren't - I'm not trying to start a year-round school debate here, that's in enough other threads! )
Finding someone may be another story, especially if you're not sure where you're going to live. I can ask her how she gets her name out there, pm me if you want more details.

I would join the trianglemommies (trianglemommies.com) group. They are a great resource for playgroups, mom's night out, but also have working moms who know the ins and outs of part time and full time day care options in the area. If you join and post, they will be happy to give you information!

Thanks for the advice. My wife decided against the job afterall. She decided to wait for something with more regular hours.

There is one in Holly Springs that does this. I think that it is just outside of the Windcrest subdivision on 55. I dont remember the name.
