I've read elsewhere that Google recently removed all abilities for crowd source contributors to edit the map, which means it can take months before a new road will show. For example, the newest section of I-73 between Greensboro and US-220 north of the city opened back in May and it's just now showing up on Google Maps.

The best you could do now is to use the "Report a problem" feature, but I wouldn't hold my breath. NCDOT fought with Google for months to get the I-587 label removed from US-264 and are still trying to get the I-87 label removed from US-64. If Google isn't giving much priority to NCDOT, then I doubt average Joes like us would have better luck.

I've had pretty good success getting features changed on Google Maps. Granted it has taken a couple of reports to do so but at least changes have eventually been made.

But yes, it used to be so much easier to make changes. When I first moved to Raleigh, I took the suggested bike route map from the City of Raleigh's website and pretty much edited the whole bicycling layer in Google to match up.
