Hi all,
I live in the area and travel quite often and cannot take care of my yard as much, however, we do water every so often, seed yearly, cut lawn often etc. However our yard currently is about 50% weeds. What can we do that doesn't involve using pesticides to clear out? As this is specific to our area I thought this forum would be good.

I'll set your lawn on fire for several of the dollars.

You're not going to get very far without using chemicals. Just the way it is unfortunately.

so, if chemicals are the only route to doing it, when should I go about doing so? Also, is it better for me to use vegetation killer instead of a weed killer?

As soon as you start seeing weeds in the Spring, lay down weed and feed.

I threw in the towel years ago. Totally not worth the work or the money.

I did as well. There are some people in my neighborhood with well-manicured crabgrass lawns. Or at least short and neat. I can't get the fescue to look as it should without chemicals so I give up and I'm not alone where I live, fortunately.

No pesticides.
Herbicides, i.e., weednfeed.

Keeping fescue lush is a year-round effort.

Our yard in Raleigh was short and manicured, but it was full of green weeds.

Mine too. It's plagued with Virginia buttonweed, which I hate so much I want to set it all on fire like the picture above - had a lawn guy come out and he said they basically need to rip everything out plus soil and resod for lots of money. Few things kill that buttonweed, apparently, so I now give up and mow it short.
