This is funny. Ever since moving here, I haven't seen quite as many hipsters as I expected to see in a city this size. Sure doesn't feel like Atlanta, at least when I was living there years ago.
My brother, an Atlanta resident, says it's got more scenesters than hipsters. I didn't know what that was when he first told me that five or six years ago so he explained it to me. An internet search will bring up several comedic comparisons between the two.
I'm in Raleigh. Haven't spent much time in Durham yet. I need to explore.

A quick Google search makes "scenesters" sound like a nicer way to say "tools." I can definitely see where your brother is coming from!

Some people would say the Triangle gets hipster-er the further west you go. Carrboro being the hipster-most. I dunno. I think there are pockets of them in all the downtowns. Chapel Hill and Carrboro, though, being less suburban and sprawly than Rawly have them in higher concentrations.
There may be spots here and there, but this area is way too family, soulless neighborhood heavy for hipsters.
