One would think getting more flights to a certain city would probably one of the easier things to change, as compared to say having to build an entire mass transit system or having enough office space/open land or having great colleges/universities already in your metro area.
Oh agree, I just don't know how firm they are in having these things in place before they decide, or whether they're willing to go for potential. Nor do I know how easy it is to get new flights in.
They'll have to pay more to keep good talent there due to the COL. That's a down side to Long Island.
Companies are fleeing LI and have been for 20 years. One ride out from the airport will nix that whole idea. Plus working for Amazon is not going to be enough to overcome the crappy housing stock at ridiculous prices and astronomical taxes. What's more the LI populace is sick and tired of tax breaks for big companies that lands even more of the burden on them.
Amazon essentially has unlimited funds. Finding space so they can build a mini city is the bigger issue for them, money is irrelevent. They will probably pick somewhere in Brooklyn if they go to New York, take over Red Hook or wherever they can convert blocks of warehouses to office space.

Yep. Spot on. And that's the #1 reason we probably won't be getting them and they'll most likely end up somewhere in the BosWash corridor.
If they're going someplace "cheap"...I think it would be cool for them to "reinvest" in a city that's had it's industry die out and could use some hope. Somewhere along the great lakes maybe.

Seems like someplace larger that isn't quite as bombed-out as Gary would potentially be more realistic. Milwaukee, Cleveland, Detroit, Buffalo, Rochester. Pittsburgh has been mentioned often but they seem to already but on the major upswing.
I'd put Raleigh's chances about equal or a little higher than those areas.
