I am originally from Ohio, but have also lived in NY and NJ before settling down in NC. I swear about a third or more of the people I meet are from NY or NJ. The neighbors on both sides of me are from TX and the ones behind us are from OH.

This is by far the friendliest place we have ever lived. Everybody says 'please' and 'thank you' and cars let you merge into traffic. I didn't experience this nearly as much when living in NJ.

My neighbors are from all over. Decent amount from the northeast, some NC natives and people from other places too including people from other countries. Honestly don't think much about it or ask, if I know the people and it comes up, it comes up.

Oh, and how are my neighbors? My neighbor's here are all retired mostly...kind of laid back really. Some of my North Hills neighbors on the other hand seemed to have had their heads up their butt.

I don't think there is a single NC native on my block.

I haven't really asked all my neighbors. The ones to the right of me are originally from WV, but have been here for 30 or 40 years. The ones on the other side are came from California more recently. I believe the lady across the street is Irish. Got a bunch of grad students next to her and I have no idea where they're all from. Next to them are some Chapel Hill natives. I know we've got folks from Kansas, South Carolina, New Jersey, as well as NC.

We're in Apex now, previously we were in the Brier Creek area. In both, there is/was a mix of states, along with a few native to NC.

I think the comments about all transplants being from the NE partly goes along with the joke that Cary stands for Containment Area for Relocated Yankees. In general, though, I've met an equal number of people from the NE and the Midwest (lots of Ohio and Michigan, in particular).

Our current neighborhood has a larger percentage of people from India; the previous neighborhood only had a couple.

So far, I would say our current neighborhood has nicer people. I'm not sure why that is but we had some really weird/crazy people in our old neighborhood. (They loved to yell at each other on Nextdoor. Not pleasant.)

Off the top of my head...
Chicago
Virginia Beach
Pittsburgh
Cincinnati
West Virginia
Charlotte
Raleigh
Florida
Richmond
New Jersey

I'm in N. Raleigh, above I540.
All are generally great. Those from Virginia seem to be a bit more aloof. Not sure why.
