I was away for work and haven't been hiking in a few weeks. I was going to go to Umstead because the Company Mill is a nice long trail but I was wondering if there's better places to go this morning that has more fall foliage views?

I saw a beautiful photo of a road leading to Falls Lake this week. I've never been there and there's a lot of trails around and water views. I'm thinking any trees that are more exposed to sunlight are going to be more colorful right now...?

Anyone been out there lately and have a suggestion? Pictures help too

The ground looks the wrong color in that photo. Think they were tweaking colors in Lightroom or Photoshop to make it more dramatic and didn't bother masking the ground.

I always find the trail along the Eno one of the most colorful places this time of year.

You could go to Occoneechee Mountain in Hillsborough. Get a little bit of a view at the top. Been a long time since I've been but I like Duke Forest too. Anywhere there is water is nice.

I spend a lot of time around Falls Lake and have never driven this road. Are you certain this is in Raleigh/Wake Forest (the picture, not Falls Lake).

A friend and I hiked at Raven Rock in Lillington this week and we saw some good colors. It was worth the drive.

There's definitely a filter on that photo, but I don't even think it's as involved as Photoshop. You can use filters on photos before posting in the instagram app.

The Seaforth trail at Jordan Lake is really pretty at this time of year. Seaforth

Here is a picture I took right around this time in 2012:

1. the colors haven't been good this year. patches are vibrant, just not panoramic.
2. Occoneechee is still good enough. didn't see any better any where else today.
3. hiking anywhere anytime makes most things beautiful. i'm jealous.
