I went to a place today that was fantastic (Thai China, Durham) and I didn't notice until I paid that they are down to a score of 90.

I think 90 is ok with me. I might stick with a place until 88, but no lower.

Oh my, I just found out that my favorite Indian restaurant had an 83 but fortunately has gone up to a 93.

Are you taking into account the 2 bonus points some places receive for completing training or something or another?
Personally, I like to read the report. The number isn't an exact science.

I went to Carolina Coffee Shop and was horrified that they had an 85. No turning back--it was a work function...

Friends went to a Chinese place in Morrisville that had a rating in the 70s--the threw their food out in the parking lot...

I've recently become quite addicted to the local restaurant ratings and find some of the reports in the News and Disturber, hilarious. One of my friends has walked out of a restaurant when he saw an 87.5. Always seems to be a particular type of restaurant too.

Its nice to know that the ratings are there but personally I don't pay much attention. An empty restaurant would be a red flag that something was wrong with the place.

Lowest I have seen is a C rating in the bar of a Golf course near Chapel Hill. Highest has been a sandwich shop on Franklin street. It was 102. A very Spinal tap moment and I thought the rating was a joke (My restaurant goes up to 102).

If I see that it isn't an A or if I notice that the sign is not up (like Uno at Brier Creek tried to pull when they had a bad rating), then I will not eat there. No excuse for it.

There was an article several years back that included an interview with a restaurant inspector from Wake Co. He was asked what was the lowest score he would actually take his family to.. he said he would not go to anything under 90.

That's good to know.

I'm really upset that my fave restaurant had an 83 at one point, because there is NO way they had the sign up. I only know it because I just looked at the Durham County reports. I was wondering why it seemed empty in there lately - and why the owner told me to please keep coming back *sigh*

I would walk out of *anything* below a 90, and would give serious pause to anything below a 93. After seeing what may be present in restaurants that get an 'A' (roaches, etc.), I can't even imagine eating in something rated lower.

A friend of mine who has little different way of seeing things says that you want to go to the places that have low ratings.....they are working hard to get their grade up. The places that aready have good grades know they can slack a little.

He almost has a point
