A great article was published in Food & Wine recently about the scene in Raleigh.

48 Hours in Raleigh: Where to Eat and Drink | Food & Wine

Just curious, how do we rate compared to other major US cities in this regards?

This area has a long way to go but it's heading in the right direction. We are years behind larger cities in foods and drink trends. Cary is getting a cocktail bar, well this has been a thing in large cities for 10 years. Breweries apparently have been big here for a few years, well this has been a thing for over 20 years in larger cities.

6 on a scale of 10 overall. That's not to say there aren't a number of places doing great work, but in terms of the bigger picture it's fairly pedestrian but trending better as time goes by.

PSA: Finch's has opened their Durham outpost on Old Chapel Hill Road. I went vegetarian at a bad time - haven't been there - but in case any Raleigh-ites miss it, you can still go, but in Durham.

Obligatory AC mention and quote within the first two paragraphs.

Some places in the article we haven't tried yet but intend to. I figure cooler weather is a good time to try out new places.

..."how do we rate compared to other major US cities"...
1. Raleigh is not a top 30 (major) city. Charlotte is the only one in NC.
2. restaurants are not one of Raleigh's emphasis. grandparents moving to grandchildren is one.
3. regardless, how "we" rate depends on who is rating. we have high ratings in NC. not in USA.

Raleigh’s Brewery Bhavana named one of 10 coolest restaurants in the world by Forbes. Only 1 other US restaurant (in Los Angeles) made the list.

You must be from Charlotte, or better yet Lincolnton.

Raleigh's restaurants and chefs have won numerous accolades over the years. I think we can hold our own against any US city relative to our size.
