My husband and I are building a home in Holly Springs. Almost one month after going under signing our contract, we just found out our floor plans have been approved (we didn't know they weren't approved). How long does it typically take for the Town of Holly Springs to approve a building permit (they aparently just applied for the building permit today). We were originally given an estimated close date of September 18th. Thanks for your imput!

When I sell a person a home, we order the plans for that person's home, with the structural additions or changes requested. When the plans come back from our architectural group, the plans get sent out to be engineered. Once the engineer does his thing and stamps the plans, we submit the engineered house plan along with a copy of the preliminary plot plan to the Town of Holly Springs. Holly Springs has been taking around 4 - 5 weeks to have the building permit ready to pick up.

So from contract to permit, for my builder, the time elapsed is usually about 6-8 weeks total. This always seems like the longest 6-8 weeks of the buyer's life. Lots of stuff is actually happening though. The estimating department is ordering materials, construction team is setting up a schedule etc. Once the permit is in hand, we grade and start the foundation with in a day or two. Things go quickly from that point forward because you can see measurable progress.

Hang in there, it will start to get more fun real soon!
