My hubby has been there a year already he works in Wake Forest. I am moving to join him in 4 weeks so we are looking to rent. We are in our early 50’s and for the first time the kids are all grown up. I am A Brit, hubby from Rhode Island - quite a large Brit community in Cary, I didn’t really like wake forest . Hubby wants a house I would like a condo - we have been advised to look in North Hills and Cary . I like restaurants shops etc. are there any other area’s around Raleigh for single family homes that are nice - hubby would like no more than a 40 min commute.

Thank you
B

Commuting between Cary and WF will be over 40 minutes during traditional work times. What don't you like about WF? That may help guide you.

Commuting from Cary would get real old real fast. I would look in N. Raleigh if that's on your radar instead.

He has a colleague who does the commute and said it works out to be 40 because of their work times so I will check again with him. Wake forest just seemed more rural and far out .

It IS a bit of a distance from Raleigh, but it has most big box shopping, some good restaurants, a cute downtown with some local shops, a brewpub, etc. Its considered a very desirable place to live.

Check out the Falls River & Bedford Communities off Durant Rd in N Raleigh.

Sorta in between Cary, Raleigh downtown & Wake Forest and a nice area.
Durant Nature Park, Falls Lake, Raleigh Greenway Trail & The Neuse River Trail are all close.

I agree that North Raleigh seems like a good compromise and maybe rent something until you're sure where you want to live.

I personally would not want to live in Wake Forest because getting to Durham, Cary, Raleigh, 1-40 or just about anywhere would take forever, especially with the limited roads coming in & out of Wake Forest.
During rush hour traffic backs up bad on Capital Blvd.

In Raleigh if you find a central area to live the "things to do" within 15 to 20 minutes is extensive.

North Hills area is in my opinion crowded and over priced.
