No consequences will only serve to encourage further bad behavior. Brilliant move Durham!

Not Durham's fault the state assembly made it impossible to take down through legal avenues. It is gone, the majority of Durhamites are happy about it being gone, let's move on with our lives.

I don't get it either.

Vandals broke the law and destroyed someone else's property.

Vandals should be brought to justice.

They should be made to pay for the damaged property. I don't think jail time is called for. Maybe an anger management class? Maybe community service?

Lots of hypocrites and thin skinned cry babies out there. This decade will be known as the tantrum years to future historians.

“District Attorney Roger Echols did not take questions after a terse statement in which he essentially said it did not make sense to pursue charges against the remaining suspects given that District Court Judge Frederick S. Battaglia Jr. on Monday found one suspect not guilty and dismissed charges against two others.”

I fail to see why anyone’s upset with the DA for not wasting money and time.

Maybe you’re upset with the judge?

I hope the monument will be repaired and reinstalled so that its removal, if appropriate, can be done through proper, legal methods.

It does seem a shame to reward the ones that knocked it down for their illegal behavior
by leaving it down.

If Durham cannot convict someone caught on video tape destroying public property
they need a new DA & judges.

Frederick S. Battaglia Jr will probably cruise to re-election based on the fact he dismissed charges against them.

Of course you are free to vote against him kelly, that is how democracy works. But, do you actually live in Durham?

Wow, this is super surprising, considering the Durham DA office has had such a great track record with DAs, assistant DAs...
