It's very frustrating that every single post office in Raleigh closes at 5pm.

Is there anywhere near downtown where a package can be dropped off and you can get a receipt for USPS packages?

Thanks!

Many Post Offices have a self-serve area where you can pay for postage and drop off small packages.

You can also go to a UPS store, they will mail USPS.

The last time I tried that my package got lost. And I asked the closest UPS to me and they said they don't take USPS packages

It closes at 4:00 but there's a post office right downtown at 300 Fayetteville St and then another that closes at 5:00 at 311 New Bern Ave

Looks like those are your only options unless you want to use a UPS store or other shipping method, which you say you don't. Is cost what's really pushing you to USPS or is it another issue.

I think it is just the luck of the draw.

Thursday, 5/10/2018, I received a USPS package that was accepted by USPS in Chicago on 2/2/2017.

I need somewhere where I can drop off slightly bigger packages and get receipts.
I used to live in Cary and there were a bunch of smaller post offices in gas stations and such that were open until 10pm or later.

Well, looking for something open past 5 so those don't work.

Yeah, usps is significantly cheaper in most cases and I just can't get to the post office 9-5 with work.

Figured I would check! Maybe I'll just try to give the USPS less business whenever I can. I've just never lived somewhere that didn't have an option for open offices after 5pm.

You can use the locator tool to find out where all the Post Offices and Approved Postal Providers are located and what their hours are. Perhaps you will have some luck finding a "Contract Postal Unit" which is basically like a small outpost post office. For example, I know there's one in the Capi's convenience store in Regency Park in Cary.

Hopefully, we'll start seeing more Automated Parcel Drops: https://link.usps.com/2017/06/19/drop-in/

I used one in Northern Virginia, and it was great. It was in the lobby of the post office, which is open 24 hours, and I could use the kiosk to get a receipt and drop my fairly large package.
