I'm on my way to Durham with my 13 year old painted turtle. She's had a few health issues common to her breed and age, plus one scare (lightbulb exploded into the tank), and I don't feel comfortable bringing her to a vet who doesn't specialize in exotics. Any snake or turtle fans with good recommendations?

Get in contact with the NC State Vet school. They should be able to help you directly or tell you where to go.

It looks like they have an exotics department. Thank you very much.

We took our dog to the NC State vet place.

Told us she most likely had brain cancer and needed a $3,500 MRI to properly diagnose.

I asked, ok, so we get this MRI, then what?

"Well she probably only has a few months left".

The MRI wouldn't have extended her life one bit. They were trying to shake us down in order to use our dog (and money) as a "learning experience" for their vets. We left and did not get an MRI.

Three years later the dog is still kicking.

This may sound petty but I'm less confident in them because their turtle diet recommendation has an error - goldfish are too fatty and shouldn't be given to turtles.

Still now I have two recommendations. Thank you.
