The Allen Drive parking lot in Southeast Raleigh (by New Bern), plus the trail north to just over the first bridge. It's in really bad shape, so I see the need but wow, four months.

I wonder how many people will use neighborhood streets to get around that section, and how the neighbors are going to feel about it.

I was having trouble finding Allen Dr. in Google Maps. I finally found an Allenby Drive?

That's funny. I couldn't either.

Raleigh Beach Rd. turns into Allen Dr. just before the parking lot for folks to get on the Greenway. As for traffic, I doubt you will see much in the way of bikes as there is no safe neighborhood road connection between the entrances. In order to to get around the bridge you would have to take New Bern Ave. which no rider is going to do.

I have ridden my bike out there a few times and love the distance and the lack of cars but I have been disappointed in the fact that some of the bridges are in such poor shape that I have gotten flat tires after riding over them. Never happens to me anywhere else.

So bottome line:

Does this meant there is a major disconnect between Anderson Point and Horseshoe Park (or whatever it's called), and that the only way around is to get on New Bern?

I'm not super familiar with any area up there that is off of the greenway, and the maps are not super clear to me, so it's hard to tell. Seems like there has to be a decent detour route. Heck, before the bridge over 40 on ATT, we found semi-safe ways to get accross. This can't be worse than that. (And yes, I'd ride a short distance on New Bern, assuming it's not a limited access highway at that point, and I don't think it is...)

Anyone able to either give clearer description of where the greenway is closed (from/to) or a suggested route to avoid it?

I think these, and the previous posts should clear this up.

It does, thanks!

So it looks like one would have to take New Bern, all the way to (yada yada yada) Eagle Trace to get around this. Not ideal!

Wonder if it will be a complete closure, for the full time.

(For those coming from W. Raleigh, you could go up through Shelley Lake, down Honeycutt Creek, over Durant, and (yada yada yada) past the land fill to get to the dam.)

After looking closer, you could exit the Greenway at Allen Dr. to Raleigh Beach all the way to right before New Bern and cut through the back to the church parking lot to Hedingham dr. follow until it turns into Wild Dunes, R on Eagle Trace, R on Grand Traverse Dr.. L on Crag Burn to the greenway entrance as a detour. This keeps you off New Bern on less busy roads.

I usually ride south from Anderson Point, so sounds like I will avoid all the confusion.
