If you are looking for something fun to do this week 5 acres of sunflowers are blooming at Dix Park. Unlike the fields along the Neuse Greenway (not planted this year) the field at Dix Park is intended for the public to enjoy and you are totally allowed to walk through the field and take pictures. Visit Raleigh has a great post about the fields including a detailed map with directions how to find them.
Does anyone have the gps coordinates for the sunflower fields? I
know where Dix is but don't know where the fields are in relation
to everything there? I'd love to see them but not sure what time
of day it will be when I get there, the sun angle, etc? I may just
have to photograph them at night...

They're easy to find. The GPS coordinates to the parking area: 35.7730454,-78.6596335
But this web page has a little map with a picture showing you exactly where to go. It might be easier if you come in off Western. https://dorotheadixpark.org/article/...ix-park-summer
I thought I'd also add, for others unfamiliar, that you can park in any parking lot within the park that's marked with green lines. So for additional parking, there's one such lot in front of the graveyard off Umstead Dr, which you can see in the above link's picture, bottom left of the sunflower fields. It's also paved, while the soccer field parking lot is gravel. If you park here, there's a little trail to the fields, but if the sunflowers are facing towards downtown, you'll have to walk around to the other side to see their faces. By parking in the soccer field lot, it's an easier hike in either direction.
Thank you for all that info MrsRhythm, that's exactly what I was looking for!
I was out at Dix this afternoon and was amazed at the large number of people who were out there late checking out the sunflowers.
