So....

Is ATT rolling out 5G to "Raleigh?" Or, to the "Raleigh Market?"

I would guess the latter - question is how far out will they go. I think it's a pretty safe bet Cary will get it.

Honestly I don't have any idea who needs gigabit mobile service, but hey I guess it's good news.

It is not mobile service. Think of this as new High Speed Internet you can use inside your home (no more Fiber / DSL / Cable, etc...)

The Verizon 5G rollout is targeted at fixed wireless. ATT is less enamored of that model, actually more focused on mobile 5G. At least in the near term.

There is no industry standardization of what "5G" actually means. There are many different technology streams in the evolution of wireless. 5G can refer to any mix of the next steps in these streams. Each of the streams tends to have its own schedule. Caveat emptor.

There really isn't even a followed standard for 4G. AT&T shows their HSPA+ service as "4G" on the phone itself.

“The good thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from.”

Has 5g+ been live in Raleigh NC or not? Nothing is listed on the carrier’s coverage map. I don’t believe AT&T is being very clear on this matter. Answers are needed. I paid a lot of money. They published maps of their low band 5g in other states but when it comes to the 35 cities across the US including Raleigh and Charlotte they have published nothing. Their call center representatives are clueless, misleading, downright lying or something akin to it. I paid a lot of money for a 5g phone as I was promised by an AT&T representative to experience the new tech. I haven’t and I’m furious. What does AT&T have to say for themselves? It says on their site that’s it’s live in SELECT areas of Raleigh NC etc but what areas??? It’s just a take my money scheme. Transparency please.

Not sure we need to revive a second thread to talk about this. Anyway, what phone model do you have?

AT&T offers two flavors of 5G:

5G (low-band sub-6Ghz): This is the mainstream consumer version of 5G that will eventually have nationwide coverage. It's a bit faster than 4G LTE (or AT&T's dumb "5GE" branding that's actually still 4G). We do not have this spectrum here yet.

5G+ (high-band mmWave): This is what has apparently rolled out in "select" areas here. They have not released coverage maps anywhere, but it would likely be on the order of just a few city blocks here. I believe there are only three phones currently able of accessing this spectrum, all Samsungs...Galaxy S10 5G, Galaxy S20+ 5G, and Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G. This spectrum offers super fast data, but has short range, so it's only going to be deployed in dense urban areas and places like sports stadiums.
