Hi all. Looking for a good clean lake or river near Raleigh/Wake Forest that allows dogs (and allows dogs in the water). Does such a place exist? Thanks.
Specifically, Turtle Hole on the Eno (accessed via parking on Landis Drive and a nice quick 10 minute hike) is an awesome swimming spot. I take my dog there several times each summer and many other people are also usually there with their dogs.
My last dog thoroughly enjoyed swimming in Falls lake all 12 of her years alive. My current dog has enjoyed it so far in the 3 years he's been alive. Both are Labradors which have a lifespan of 10-12 years.
My dog loves swimming below the dam at Lassiter Mill. We walk down there a few times a week in the spring and summer, just not after heavy rains.
This is a good one. My dog likes wading in Shelley lake and falls lake as well but she isn’t a huge swimmer. Shelley lake has a creek on the back side that is good for wading too.

Not to be negative, but I would never let my dogs swim in Shelley Lake. The water that feeds into it is all runoff from the roads and yards and whatever else. The one time I let them swim in one of the feeding creeks (because moving water is usually a better option to keep the crud out), they all smelled horrible. That was the last time we went there. We did do Falls Lake quite often, though and let them wade in Lake Lynn if they got too warm walking around it.
