it's a military exercise which the Triangle "borders", and we'll see more low flying aircraft around. it happens every year, so we're used to it, but the new folks should know. (low flying at night, too)

Those conspiracy nutters in the southwest freaking out about military exercises should move to Fayetteville area and see the real thing

I've never heard of this and appreciate the warning, but does this apply to either Wake or Durham County? Specifically, Brier Creek? If so, I want to 'warn' my mostly transplant neighbors.

The exercise will not involve Wake, Durham, or Orange counties. You may notice an uptick in military aircraft flying over, but then again, maybe not...

Participating counties are Alamance, Anson, Cabarrus, Chatham, Cumberland, Davidson, Davie, Guilford, Hoke, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Richmond, Robeson, Rowan, Scotland, Stanly and Union.

I wonder how many people bought houses next to Bragg and will complain about the noises.

Ah, nobody. You don't need to live "next door" to Fort Bragg to hear the big guns/explosions. I grew up in Fayetteville and we would hear big booms and our windows would rattle and shake all the time. We did not live particularly close to base. We were on the other side of the mall area closer toward downtown. I never thought a thing of it. Didn't have anything to do with Robin Sage, either. That's the just the normal for Fayetteville. You're gonna hear big booms pretty much all over town and see lots and lots of airplanes and choppers.

I think it's nice to have a heads up about Robin Sage, though. I seem to remember there was an incident 10-15-20 yrs ago or so. I can't recall the details now, but it involved one of the civilians who was participating in role playing for Robin Sage. I think they did their role too well and fooled local law enforcement or something along those lines? Anybody recall?

A fighter jet flew over my house....low....this past week - I was glad I remembered this thread. My son was outside and he's a lil into the military so he came in announced it, although I heard it coming a mile away!

Ah, this was the incident I mentioned: https://www.wral.com/news/local/story/6203569/ . A deputy in Moore County killed a soldier and wounded another one because of a mix-up when he didn't realize they were participating in Robin Sage. A more thorough article in the LA Times: http://articles.latimes.com/2002/feb/27/news/mn-30109

According to this article in the Charlotte Observer from last year they have taken precautions against that happening again:

Sheriff killed one soldier and wounded another. He pulled them over for some reason and they thought he was in on the exercise so they tried to “bribe” him. Things turned sour and he shot them.
