Couldn’t agree more. I’m from Europe originally and don’t miss it for a bit. At first, we only traveled within US because we had no choice. Now we are citizens but we are yet to go out of the country for a vacation.
There are so many amazing places in the US. This year we took Southwest flight to Spokane, WA (through Chicago), then drove to the Glaciers park in Montana. The nature there is so different and breathtakingly beautiful. I thought it would be a boring long drive and was completely blown away. Lake Coeur D’Alene is stunning, small mining towns in ID rich with history. Glaciers are majestic and Follow The Sun road is one of the best scenic drives in the whole world. And did you know Montana has the best coffee? There are espresso shops like in a barn in the middle of nowhere. With an industrial size top of the line espresso machine. It’s the most bizarre sight.
On a whim we took a side road to see Hungry Horse dam, drove a mile past it and saw an entrance to a state park. I kept thinking we’ll end up like in Wrong Turn horror film
but there turned out to be a small boat ramp on a most serene, beautiful lake. One boat just left and there was no one else but us. It was amazingly quiet. Then suddenly a golf cart with a license plate “Stud muffin” (true story!) drove up and a man who looked like a slightly younger Santa Claus asked if we were going to pick huckleberries. Then he started telling stories about local bears and other wildlife and suddenly we felt an urge to leave.
This country is full of interesting people, incredible nature and man-made wonders. The rest of the world is overrated!
