Raleigh's one-month ban on garbage disposals is a sad (absurd?) moment in the history of Mayor Meeker and the City Council, which voted 7-0 to impose it. Mayor McFarlane and Russ Stephenson are still around from that time. The Utilities Director of the City quietly retired the year after repeal.
I have a great deal of respect for Charles Meeker and other members of that City Council, and I generally support giving deference to your City Staff, who should have subject matter expertise, but that was an all-time terrible decision.
We've never used the garbage disposal except to do a little monthly maintenance. I always thought they were nothing but trouble.
