I am planning on working when we move to NC. I have two children that I currently leave with my mother during the summer days that I work.( 2 times a week) Moving away from her will be a big set back. Having relatives around is always helpful.

I was wondering what the new transplants do with thier children when they are at work?
Are there reliable babysitters (you trust)?
Summer camps?

How many hours will you be working? If you are only working 2 days this option may be a possibility: Just Playin Around - Cary's Choice for Drop in Child Care since you won't require fulltime care.

My wife works 2 1/2 days a week (20 hours). We take our son to daycare for 2 days per week ($600/mo) and we leave him with a sitter for the extra 1/2 day. The sitter has a son the same age as ours, so they play together all morning.

Not sure what part of NC you are talking about, but Apex has Hopper's House for drop in care, Cary has RightTimeKids, and I am not really sure about the rest of the Triangle as I just moved here recently as well. Drop in care is a great option that I had never heard about before moving to NC. You can buy bulk hours which really reduces the hourly rate to cheaper than any babysitter. Here are the websites:
Hopper's House - Inflatables, Parties, Jumpers, Family, Fun, and Games in Apex, NC
Right Time Kids - When You Need Time, Leave The Kids With Us

I hope this helps.

I will check them out. I am going to miss all the free babysitting my family did for me! ..............I wonder....can I convince them to move with me? lol

I saw all the response in this thread and decided to ask another question...I am a new mommie of a 6 month old and am really disappointed about the future babysitting prospects in my area. I know there are websites like sittercity.com, but I wanted something that was more personal. a network of babysitters that are actual stay at home moms wanting to make a little extra on the side by offering babysitting options to working moms...a kind of mom to mom network...do any of you know if something like that exists around here?

I know a friend who has that in her subdivision. Every mom has posted what they're willing to do and what hours they're available. They work on a 'credits' system - every hour you take care of other kids, you get an hour in return (but not necessarily from the same person). Not sure of the exact details, but it works very well for their large group and allows each mom to give what she can.
