Umstead is a great area. Brier creek is relatively close. Lots of nice places around Ebenezer Church Road. It is really close to Cary and 40 so you could even commute there in no time from some of those areas. Good luck!

We live in the Leesville area and are a short 3 mile drive from Umstead. There is also Glenwood North off of Glenwood just south of Umstead. Many many choices in this area. I suggest you get out and check out the housing situation yourself and then ask some more specific questions.

Umstead Park is my favorite and depending on your budget, there is a new townhouse community named Townes/Umstead. There are also a few homes in this subdivision that are priced about 500K. The homes are on about a half acre. Not much left, just was there today. There are some other resale homes in Ashworth Estates that aren't too far away from the park. It's really going to depend on your budget.

Anything in Cary that would be considered "close to SAS" is close to the Reedy Creek entrance to Umstead Park, which is just the other side of I-40. There is a wide range of prices in that area depending on what you are looking for. Also, the Black Creek Greenway in Cary runs up to Lake Crabtree, and a trail from there then goes into Umstead, so it is possible to get to Umstead without driving.

I drive this way every day to and from work and traffic is not an issue. To me rt. 70 is much better than Rt. 1 when it comes to traffic.

thank you everyone for your responses, i appreciate the help. the top of our price range is around $250,000. are there any neighborhoods close (preferably walking distance) to umpstead for us?? again, it's also imperative that we're close to the RTP (hopson and davis area).

You could look at Long Lake subdivision. Its off Glenwood. You have a choice of townhomes and single family.
