I am curious to know why are there so many restaurants closing in Raleigh such as the cupcake shop on Wade Avenue? What is going on?

Restaurants typically run on really slim margins - few are ever as widely successful as the popular ones are

A cupcake shop isn't a restaurant. It is a fad that has run its course (and then some)

It was just after midnight when you posted this. Maybe go to those places around noon so they stay open.

Yup. They come and go.
When I sold small business accounting services, the accountant helped about as many restauranteurs close or go to bankruptcy as he helped successful ones.

One day I said, " You know, when I meet a new restaurant owner, I too often feel like I just shook hands with a loser."
He agreed.

Small margins and the ability to provide food does not immediately make the owners good business people.

I"m an old Restaurant guy (Chef-worker, not owner), and people always said I should open my own.

The joke always went: Do you know how to get to a Million Dollars by running a restaurant?

Spoiler
Start with two million

In other words, "What others have said"

The upfront cost to opening a restaurant is so high, I never understand where people get the money or financing. Such a high-risk business, gotta assume it's people with tons of money, or not a lot to lose in the case of default.

Yeah, the Gigi's parent company filed for bankruptcy a couple of weeks ago.

That cupcake shop was the worst one I've ever been to! Poor service and the cupcakes were either stale or frozen and the selection wasn't very good. I agree, the cupcake fad is over.

Restaurants are like every other business...the best will survive. The others will not.

Ah Gigi's........overpriced and the cupcakes weren't that good. I've noticed that most of the cupcake stores around here have closed. Even the ones that were doing well.
