I don't agree with this...only because of the situation where the right hand turner has to make an immediate left, or vice versa. I drive a situation like this every day where I need to take an immediate right after taking my left, so I have to take the turn into the right lane.

Can't help you don't agree with it. Rules of the road state otherwise. If you have to make an immediate right then use good judgment by making the turn then merging. The immediate right must be a certain distance from the intersection.

My gripe is with people who just sit there waiting for every car to turn right and that's the wrong thing to do.

So what is someone supposed to do in that situation? Please enlighten me.

Edit :. Just saw your update. Sorry but there's plenty of instances where there is not nearly enough time to make a merge.

That's true I don't. But since I'm right behind them I see they don't make an immediate turn. Fact is, people don't know the rules of the road. As previously posted NCDMV is an absolute joke.

^There's a good one. Cars turning onto Rogers rd. from either direction of travel on S. Main st. can turn simultaneously. The cars turning right must stay in the right lane then merge into the straight lane. However, very rarely do I see that occur because most cars turning right will plow right into the left lane. If a car is turning left onto Rogers rd. and wants to turn right into the shopping center that is now on that corner obviously must use common sense and perform a zipper merge to by turning into the left lane then merging right.

Cars making a right have precedence over cars turning left in the same intersection. Left turn must yield. I mean, there are intersections that are set up for the left turn folks to turn at the same time, but on the average intersection, that's not the case.

Left turn always yields to right. Pretty sure that's standard, everywhere.

Tonight I noticed I almost cut too tight on a left turn - it was raining and the damn pavement markings are impossible to see around here at night in the rain so you're just blindly guessing sometimes.
