1. yes. spiders. one landed on my wife while i was driving on the Beltline. she grabbed my hand OFF the wheel.
2. bees. my sister killed the bee, but still ran off the road. the bee was on the floor for the officer to see.
3. coffee. well, i do not drink coffee, but Cherry Coke does the same distraction.
so many others: small animals, BIG animals, carsick child, etc.
So in other words, all the other things which used to distract people while driving before cell phones.
I was rear ended years ago (I was in high school) by a girl who reached down at a traffic light to get a cookie out of a bag. She took her foot off the brake and rolled into my car.
I see plenty of distracted drivers and not all of them are on phones.
Saw this happen just the other day at High House/Cary Pkwy.
I've seen people reading, shaving, applying makeup, etc. There are many, many ways to drive while distracted.
Yep. Lol, one incident I’ll never forget was about a year or so go when I was behind someone at traffic light. The light turned green, but the woman in front of me was too busy looking in the mirror and putting on lipstick and making sure her face was still there. I hit the horn, at which point she proceeded to give me the ‘Danville howdy’ (aka middle finger) and took off like her ass was on fire. I was pissed and amused at the same time.
I’ve seen plenty of craziness here and elsewhere, but that one sticks out to me.
This last week, I saw a woman with an open book spread across her steering wheel.....blasting down 540. I'd venture to say that no less than 30-40% of drivers are holding and looking at their phones during my daily commute. Its widespread, commonly accepted as normal, and probably no less than half the people here do it daily.

30-40%
I agree it's a problem, but that's an absurd exaggeration.

Yep saw the makeup thing. Driver had the Driver Side visor mirror down, primping, while driving. Silliness. These folks need to wait for self driving cars, or ride the bus with their beloved “smartphone”, or pocket mirror in hand.
