The poster who said average high is 82 right now is correct, typical highs in May are 70-90. Average is 80, by late May we are mid 80s and by late June average is 90s . 73 sounds a little above normal for northern Michigan ? So you are warmer than you should be for this date likely .

I think we're right on target for "average" temps for this time of year in SE Michigan (about an hour west of Detroit), according to weather.com (average is listed as 72). But it feels chilly and cold on many days due to the lack of sun and the constant wind. It's been a lot warmer here on the last few Memorial Day weekends as well, but most people will be outside enjoying the holiday weekend nevertheless.

90s are definitely not abnormal for May and June. This is a little hotter than we often see, but far from abnormal or atypical. If it gets up over 100 in May that will be record-breaking, but we've had many a high 90s day in May. Not unusual at all. Just hot. You can see records at https://www.weather.gov/rah/rdutemperaturerecords

FTR, the record highs for the last week of May and the year it was set are:
05/24 95 1944
05/25 93 2011
05/26 94 1953
05/27 96 1916
05/28 99 1941
05/29 98 1941
05/30 95 1895
05/31 98 1895

So you can see this is nothing very unusual. I was born and raised in NC and have lived in NC almost all my life. I would be much more surprised to have a May that didn't reach the 90s than to have a May with high 90s.

Also, low to mid-90s is NOT very, very hot for here! You are in for a rude awakening if you think that's hot. That's just normal summer temps here. The week+ we had in 2012 over the 4th of July where about 9 out of 10 days it was over 100 was very, very hot.

The worst month will be August 2007 ... average high that month was about 97 , as you can imagine many days were well over 100. I agree as well they are in for a rude awakening ... unlike Michigan where 90s last 2-3 days at most and are the hottest of the year... 90s are the majority of the summer here . With over a month with highs averaging 90 (late June- early August )

72 is the most perfect temperature of all (IMO) with no higher than 50% humidity. Sadly this isn't the area for that except for a few days in spring and autumn.

Lately it definitely feels that way with longer winters and longer summers at the cost of the shoulder seasons . Ironically raleighs annual avg high is about 72 with both October and April averaging that. There’s a WaPO article that shows places with greatest amount of days at a certain temp. For 70s NC does really well , mid Atlantic bad, then New England does really well because of the cooler summers.

The summer and fall of 2007 was brutal. That was when the drought was at its worst, if I remember correctly. Summer stretched waaayyyyy into fall and it was day after day after day in the 90s.

It's nice to have days when you can have the windows open. The steamy heat gets old, IMO. (I know others love it.)

I guess I'm in the minority, I love this kind of heat. Sure, it's thicker out there today, but I just walked a mile our so on campus and enjoyed it.

Everyone said the summer heat and humidity here was awful but it's been a couple of years and I'm still enjoying it.

I wouldn't mind some rain though. Maybe a really nice big thunderstorm.
