I live in Cary and I'm looking to buy a 1/2 palette of sod or less for the back of our yard. (Probably up to 30 pieces total) Where can I buy sod in this area without having to go to a sod farm in the sandhills? Any info would be great! Thanks! ;-)
Along these lines, can you keep sod alive now with the water restrictions? We need some sod, but my understanding is that in stage 1 restrictions (which we're back to) you can only water once a week which isn't enough for sod.
I realize that Lowes & Home Depot eventually will carry sod later in the season but both of these store locations closest to me (both off Rt. 55) & the surrounding local nurseries do not have sod yet, I looked. Anyone else have suggestions on where to buy a small amount of sod now & not later in season?
Thanks
The Lowes at Maynard and Evans gets fresh pallets of sod (tall fescue) on Fridays. On Monday or Tuesday, the sod company totes off what hasn't sold, so if you buy on the weekend you're guaranteed that it's pretty fresh.
It's about $6/piece. I bought four pieces to do some patching, and it seems quite healthy, taking root quickly with no extra watering (I put it down about 2 weeks ago).
Go to the State Farmers Market off of Lake Wheeler Road (Take I-40 East, Lake Wheeler Road Exit). Turn left on Lake Wheeler road towards downtown. You will see the Farmers market on the left. Turn left then make an immediate right and drive to the end of the buildings. You will see the small "Super Sod" trailer. They have all types of sod throughout the year.
