for real. They were anywhere from 600-899 sqft, 2 bedrooms and 1 full bath, small kitchen and small living room, maybe a little corner in the kitchen to have an eating table; owned by the mill company and either free or rented to the workers.

This is a rather bold and ambitious tiny home project in Reno; seems to be successful and a possible blueprint for other suitable urban centers:

I can't tell you how many people I know that grew up in a house like that. It had nothing to do with a mill either.

Google “trailer parks near me” to find a list of areas where you may have a chance to drop your pint sized single wide.

Good luck

Looks like a person could rent one of these and see just what living small would be like

There are mobile home parks in South Raleigh and Garner. Considering the lot rent you have to pay, and the depreciation on a tiny home on wheels, you would be better off investing your money in a conventional small house which does appreciate. For example, there is a 2-bedroom house about 1,000 sqare feet in Wendell, listed at under $125,000. House in that price range sell very fast.

Some folks still live in houses like that

Our house was built in 1929, by hand, by the father of 4 older folks in our church. Their daddy also founded the church. The property has been kept within the "church family" since then. It was originally part of the Ross family farm, and their family has been here since dirt was invented.

The house is about 700ish sq ft. We have 1 full bath with 6ft ceilings, 1 kitchen, 1 small living room, which is the width of a couch and 2 small bedrooms. You can fit 5 of our houses in a typical Fendol farms house LOL.

Also (This is not directed to you BoBromhal) to the other folks making fun of tiny houses, ain't nothing wrong with a tiny house. Not all of us "millenials" can afford to drop several hundred thousand dollars for a mcmansion on a postage stamp, especially with wages being mostly stagnant. The entry level economy for a lot of young folks is not the same as it was in 1950s. Much more red tape nowadays.

Well then you can always go back to your poop filled "city". That place is disgusting! Nothing but tons of homeless with feces and urine everywhere. Ask me how I know!! I wouldn't go back and live there now even if you paid me.
