Default Question Re: State Residency, Moving from MI

We own a home in NC but we live in Michigan. My husband and I bought the
home because we knew we wanted to retire there in the near future.
My daughter is hoping to attend UNC next year.
Does anyone know about the residency requirements? I called the school
but have not gotton to talk to a real person yet...
I was thinking about moving there and getting an apartment and
trying to establish residency with her. Also do you know anyone who
goes to UNC and do they like the school. Thanks

Default oops one more thing

The reason I would get an apartment is because the house we
own is being rented out.

Keep in mind you must show the 12 month residency one year before first day of class. Also UNC and State are a huge challenge to get in, and even harder for out of state. UNC only accepts 18% of the entering class from outside of NC. SAT scores are very challenging as well, good luck.

ausmerika will become famous soon enoughausmerika will become famous soon enough
Also, if you are considering getting an apartment you need to consider where if your daughter will be applying to UNC using that address. Each county is limited to how many applicants they accept per county (there are 100 counties in NC by the way). It is well known that the competition is most stiff from those in Orange (where UNC is), Durham, Wake and even Alamance County. Those are all the closest counties to UNC, and therefore have the greatest number of applicants.
