In many areas, home prices directly correlate to feeder school quality.I have never personally owned a house in a neighborhood that does not guarantee us assignment for stellar schools...that feed into our said neighborhood. Our current house would have been half of what we paid if we purchased it in another district.

Here in the Dallas suburbs, home prices are very school quality driven. Each City/Town has their own independent district, nothing is done at a county level.

And that's why your property taxes are way higher there.

Having gone to a "diverse" school (Carroll) it stinks and doesnt work. The bad kids would fight multiple times a day and the good kids would do their work. Horrible idea to "diversify".

Instead provide some incentive for teachers to teach at poor schools, actually evaluate teachers to remove the bad ones and hire good teachers. Too much bureaucratic red tape in hiring.

If kids are bad it's because of bad parenting. You can move the kid wherever you want but the bad parenting will remain.

I’ve heard that Carroll has gotten much better since they were designated as a magnet and got a new principal.

I've watched the board meetings and there seems to be a lot of dancing around about race, socio-economics, and student performance. I think we all deserve to understand what the boards' true intentions are, but we'll likely never know.

Yeah, all they do is dance around specific questions. These west Cary schools are plenty diverse, so what's the problem? They care about income, especially if it's that guy who was asking how to stop high income people from buying houses in west Cary.

You have just said that "diverse" kids are "bad kids."

Diversity is bad only for people who stand to lose as a result of it.

Went to a HS with kids from 92 different countries...it was the living embodiment of what some say is our collective downfall here in the States.

Couldn't be further from the truth in my experience.

Actually no it's not. Property taxes are "high" there because there is zero income tax.

For low income earners NC is better. For higher earners the TX system if far better (if you like keeping your money).

thanks for attaching, I looked for the data but didn't find it obviously!

So, I'd clearly have to change it to those schools that are more significantly out-of-whack from the average (which is 32% it appears). And I have to add ... it's disheartening to see the LEP %'s at many of those though clearly I don't know the stats on legal vs illegal LEP families that make those up. Maybe you start with the 10 highest F&R large elementary schools that are below Wake County average test scores and NOT making sufficient progress.

I would agree.

Same thing applies to NH.

No Income tax, but property tax through the roof.

Former bosses parent's lived on Lake Sunapee. They had neighbors who paid 2-3 times the median household income of a Raleigh resident in property tax a year.
