Yup they knew they were gonna have to close tomorrow. Today should have been early release if they felt they had to do something. The kids are out going to and from school in far worse conditions than this some days.
Just recorded 0.5 inches of rain in west Cary, which is not that impressive unless we are just talking about keeping our grass green - still have my American flag out on the front porch and it's calm - t-storms have done a much worse number on my flag than today. What a waste. I know they are being cautious, but let's get real. Almost everyone would have been okay with kids going to school today (or with an early release today) and then take tomorrow (Friday) off.
She'll be fine. There's not going to be enough rain today west of Greenville to be an issue. I'd also suggest 264/I-40/I-85, not only today but all the time.
Just wanted give an update: She made it home just fine. Came home 40 to 85 to 485. I was just a nervous mom who was worried about her daughter driving home in all of this mess. Thank you so much for the reassurance and advice.
Update: - 0.75 inches of rain fallen in west Cary along Green Level Church Rd and O'Kelly Chapel. No real issues here, wind around 10 mph. I don't even feel the need to take out my flag on the front porch.
Again, Wake Co should had school today and closed tomorrow. And for those who will complain about hindsight, it was fairly clear that today was not going to be an issue.
Honest question - WRAL keeps showing gust speeds from buoys around the eye of the storm, and there's nothing over 50mph or so. How is that possible? Outside of the tornadoes has there been any issues on the NC coast? The eye wall supposedly passed right over cape fear(?)

The power isn't even out in Wilmington. ABC11 is live downtown.
And how are there already power outages around the Triangle?
