This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I think the speed limit in Cary should be no more than 35 except on freeways, 55, 64, etc.
Not that it would have prevented this incident (speed limit was 25) but everyone seems to think they have the right to go 10-20mph over the speed limit, which is way unsafe on most roads.
Agree all around. And I like to drive fast. But it’s gotten out of control.

There was a cut-through in a neighborhood in Apex a few years ago before the peakway was built. Neighbors couldn't get the town to put in speed humps, so they all agreed to park their cars in the streets and kind of make it a pain to drive down. Not sure if that is the best solution as I suppose it could impede emergency vehicles, but I like the collective initiative they showed.

I don't think the speed limit had anything to do with this accident. That being said, when people come off high house or something like that where they've been doing 60mph, it's really hard subconsciously to drop down to 25 or 30mph. Unless you're really paying attention which nobody is, your brain thinks you should still be going 15-20mph faster than you really should.
I see it all the time getting off 540 onto Green Level West. People absolutely fly down green Level West cause it's a nice wide road and they were just doing 80-85 on 540. They don't even realize they're doing it.
They should get some of those blinking signs that show you how fast you are going. There are a couple of those in Chapel Hill and Carrboro at spots where people tend to speed and they are very effective, for me at least.

You've just turned onto a residential street...you darn well better be paying attention, both consciously and subconsciously.
City planners actually plan routing like this so that, in the event a major road clogs with traffic due to an accident or whatever, drivers have alternate routes to take. To me, it's wrong.

Not a fan of that option since it lowers visibility for kids playing in driveways and running into the street after a ball or while playing tag.
IMO this was not an accident but involuntary manslaughter and the accused should be charged as such. These drivers won’t stop until severe penalties occur to the distracted and aggressive drivers. This woman is DEAD. DEAD. No sorry will help her or her family. I have zero sympathy for any distracted and aggressive driver. In the last 2 days I have passed 3 crashes either on north Falls of Neuse (2) or Litchford Rd.
Speed limits won't do anything unless the design of the road encourages/forces people to drive slower (assuming continuation of the lack of enforcement in this area of any traffic violations)

I know you're knowledge in the area so I won't disagree. But aren't there very severe penalties in NC if you're caught a certain level above the speed limit? Wouldn't that deter people I'd the limits were lower?
