Epic Games is expanding its headquarters in a big way to make room for some 2,000 new employees, the Cary-based games developer and creators of global-hit Fortnite confirmed today.

The plans include adding a 450,000- to 500,000-square-foot facility on its campus at the corner of Crossroads Boulevard and Jones Franklin Road, a property that Epic has owned since 2015.

Holy cow. I've heard it's not the best place to work, but that's good news nonetheless.

Too bad they're dead set on Cary Crossroads. I've never loved that area.

HOLY SMOKES that's a lot of new employees. with many other gaming companies based there, Cary seems to be getting quite the reputation as the HQ of electronic gaming, nationally.

**SUPER** convenient to get on/off 40/440 US1 for Crossroads. Good for recruiting & employee quality of life there in that part of Cary. As close to Raleigh as you can be, without being in Raleigh

What else does Epic do besides Fortnight? I guess I'm wondering how sustainable is being the global leader in a game?

Gears of War is a very popular console game by Epic. But the bread and butter is the Unreal Game engine. ALL of these games have been made using it:

That's a ton of licensing!

Epic also does some work with the military and oddly enough those crazy weather scenes you see on things like the weather channel. There's way more to Epic than just one game.

The Unreal Engine is quite powerful and used in a lot of places.

That's right! Anyone here old enough to remember the great Goldeneye on Nintendo 64? It's getting remade using the Unreal engine. A superb game engine made by Epic.
