Hi! I am relocating to North Carolina and I'm looking at renting in Cary by the I-40. A couple of times a week I will need to drive south to Benson and Fayetteville. Besides the distance, can anyone give me an idea of traffic in either direction? Any info on the route would be greatly appreciated.

40 minutes to Benson.
Full hour to Fayetteville.
You would be going against typical traffic flows.

Couple of times a week, not so bad.

Probably 45 mins to an hour; congested, but moving.

Local tip: we don't use "the" in front of our interstates. You're looking at renting in Cary by I-40.

MikeJaquish, thank you for the info and the speed response, it is very much appreciated!

hertfordshire, thanks for weighing in as well AND for the 'local tip'.

Relocating with my company from Seattle so a commute that is less than a couple of hours in each direction will feel like I'm on vacation lol!!

The other area my relo agent is suggesting is Holly Springs. Any opinions on living there? I'm in my late 50's and like it quiet but convenient.

Once again, thank you both!

For your job will you have an office in the Cary/Raleigh area or just down in Benson and Fayetteville?
What would you like to be convenient to you? Holly Springs has most conveniences. What things are important to you? You might enjoy the Lake Wheeler area. Close to the freeway and conveniences of Raleigh proper.

I relocated from Boston where I had a 1.25 hour commute, and had the same attitude of "any commute will be great compared to what I have". After being here some years, I can tell you that's changed. I'd be unhappy here with any commute over 30 minutes, because that's the way it is here (for now).

Keep in mind the area is growing rapidly, so your current commute will likely only get longer.

During commute hours, (if you have free Alexa app) say:

"Alexa, play WPTF on Tune-In Radio" to get local frequent traffic reports

Also, open Google Maps and look for red lines on roads, to see where traffic is slow around here.

Cary's Exit 287 area on I-40 is very accident prone during commute hours.
